Greens call for rethink on Emergency Heritage Listing for former ADI
site Western Precinct
15 December 2004
Australian Greens Senator Kerry Nettle today called on Environment
Minister Senator Ian Campbell's to reconsider his rejection of the
Western Precinct of the former ADI site for emergency listing on the
National Heritage list.
"The Greens support calls by the community for a proper consideration of
the heritage values of the Western Precinct of the former ADI site,"
said Senator Kerry Nettle.
"It is unacceptable that Minister Campbell has rejected the Western
Precinct's nomination for emergency listing without thoroughly assessing
its heritage values, in particular the remnant Cumberland Plain
Woodlands on site," said Senator Nettle.
"The Minister has based his decision on previous ecological surveys of
the former ADI site which are known to be incomplete. Local residents
have consistently recorded new species on site in the course of their
surveying work."
"For the Minister to make such a significant decision about the future
of the ADI site based on an incomplete data set from surveys conducted
years ago is grossly irresponsible."
"The Greens support the community's calls for proper assessment of the
heritage values of the former ADI site and the area's emergency listing
on the National Heritage list," said Senator Nettle.
