Bringelly Land Release Will Deepen Health Crisis
The Greens have lashed out at the Government's plans to release land in
Sydney's south west for new housing development, calling it an outrage
and an insult to the people of Western Sydney.
"Sydney's western suburbs are in need of urgent attention by this
Government and have been for decades," said Greens MLC Sylvia Hale.
"There is virtually no public transport, hospitals and health centres
are overcrowded and other infrastructure is inadequate to meet current,
let alone future demands.
"Yet again, the State Government is ignoring the needs of Western
Sydney, while developers are having a field day.
"The Government should stop using Western Sydney as a dumping ground for
a growing population and start planning in an innovative and sustainable
manner.
"Western Sydney needs more green space and fewer cars on the road to
deal with the severe pollution levels that residents struggle with on a
daily basis.
"That means extending the railway system, providing cheaper fares for
public transport and abandoning the love affair with motorways and road
tunnels.
"Premier Carr is fond of stirring panic about the 50,000 new residents
arriving in Sydney each year, but he conveniently forgets to mention
that 15,000 are packing up and leaving," Ms Hale said.
